The Head of the Department is Shevchenko Tetyana Mykolayivna, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor.
Department carries out training of specialists of nursing, specialists of physical therapy and laboratory doctors for the laboratory service of medical and prophylactic institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Educational degrees of 224 Specialty:
• first (bachelor’s) degree – 3 years 10 months (on the basis of a certificate of complete secondary education)
• second (master's) degree – 1 year 6 months (on the basis of diploma bachelor «Laboratory Assistant (Medicine)»
• postgraduate training (internship) in the same specialty, duration of study is 1 year
Shortened form of study:
Bachelor – 1 year 10 months (based on the diploma of the junior specialist of the specialties of educational branch 22 Health Protection).
To enter the specialty «224. Technologies of Medical Diagnostic and Treatment» on shortened form of study you need to have the certificate of External Independent Assessment on Ukrainian Language and Literature and pass profile-oriented exam in University.
Upon graduation, graduates-bachelors get the qualification «Bachelor – Laboratory Assistant (Medicine)»; graduates-masters get the qualification «Physician and Laboratory Assistant in Diagnostics».
Educational degrees of 223 Specialty:
• first (bachelor’s) degree – 3 years 10 months (on the basis of a certificate of complete secondary education)
• second (master's) degree – 1 year 6 month (on the basis of diploma of bachelor/specialist/master of the specialties of educational branch «22 Health Protection»)

Since 2020, we have been offering training in English for bachelors and masters, including foreign students.

Upon graduation, graduates-bachelors get the qualification «Specialist in Physical Rehabilitation».
Educational degrees of 229 Specialty:
• first (bachelor’s) degree – 3 years 10 months (on the basis of a certificate of complete secondary education).
Upon graduation, graduates-bachelors get the qualification «Specialist of Public Health».
The teaching process at the Department is provided by doctors and candidates of sciences, among them: 5 professors, 17 associate professors, 8 senior lecturers, chief doctors and heads of the departments of hospitals, leading specialists in the field of health care of Dnipro Regional State Administration.
While studying, students learn the main directions of modern laboratory medicine: new methods and directions of laboratory research using advanced world technologies, peculiarities of all stages (pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical) of laboratory studies – clinical, cytological, biochemical, immunological, immunohistochemical, genetic, bacteriological, virological, sanitary-hygienic; laboratory research in forensic medical examination, pathomorphological and pathologist services, provision of clinical and diagnostic laboratories in accordance with international standards and requirements of standards of ISO; students learn to analyze and interpret laboratory research results, make responsible decisions, carry out research work.
Students receive practical training and internship in clinical laboratories of the leading medical and preventive institutions of the city and the region, with which the Department cooperates and which are the clinical bases for training laboratory doctors and laboratory specialists. The own educational and diagnostic laboratory of the Department has a certified clinical basis, has passed the attestation to determine compliance, has the right and appropriate permits for measurements in the field of health care.
During the period of practice and internship, students study the organization of the laboratory process and have the opportunity to personally perform laboratory studies and work with high-tech laboratory equipment.
The Department of Health of Dnipro Regional State Administration annually provides available vacancies for laboratory assistants and laboratory physicians in clinical and diagnostic laboratories of our region.
Regional scientific and practical conferences on modern laboratory medicine issues are organized and held 4-6 times a year with the participation of leading specialists in modern medicine (professors, associate professors of institutions of postgraduate education and retraining of doctors, chief doctors, heads of departments of hospitals, practicing doctors from different specialties, heads of laboratories). All students of the department have the opportunity to prepare personal scientific works on the materials of the conferences.
The Department, together with the Postgraduate Education Center of DNU provides post-graduate training of specialists working in clinical-diagnostic laboratories, at training courses for laboratory assistants – advanced training and thematic improvement on topical issues of laboratory medicine.
The XXI century is called "the age of laboratory medicine," because the diseases that were most widespread in the last decade can be diagnosed only after conducting high-tech modern laboratory tests. Therefore, a laboratory service today is one of the leading departments of medical and preventive institutions, hospitals, policlinics, diagnostic centers. Graduates of the department work in clinical and diagnostic laboratories both independent and private, and in the structure of medical and preventive institutions, at forensic laboratories, laboratory centers of sanitary-epidemiological stations.
2020 is declared the year of nursing in Ukraine. In modern Ukraine, the issues of education, practical training, advanced training of nurses are reaching a new level and must match of European standards. Bachelor of nursing with higher education is also needed in Ukraine and implemented at the DNU.
