The Head of Department is Khomenko Olena, PhD, assistant professor.

The Department was founded in 1920 at the Katerynoslav Institute of Public Education by Prof. V.M. Archangelskyi who became its first head. Within the Department of Human and Animal Physiology, he also founded the Institute of Physiology and Applied Medicine and the physiological scientific journal.

The modern composition of the Department:

D.Bi.Sci., Prof. O.Severynovska (scientific direction is elucidation of adaptation mechanisms of organism to conditions of existence in anthropogenic pressure; lecture courses: «Psychophysiology with the basics of ethology», «Physiology of behavior», «Physiology of thinking and speaking»);
D.Bi.Sci., Prof. V.Lyashenko (scientific direction is fundamental comprehensive research of physiological mechanisms of metabolic stress; lecture courses: «Physiology of humans and animals», «Physiology of the cardiovascular system», «Physiology of the central nervous system», «Molecular physiology», «Basics of pathological physiology»);
PhD, Assoc. I.Kofan (scientific direction is research in the field of psychophysiology and physiology of sports and muscular activity; lecture courses: «Anatomy and evolution of the human nervous system», «Physiology of the autonomic nervous system»);

The staff of the Department

The Department has the wide range of manufacturing practices for development of a solid fundamental base and practical training of graduates. There are: research institutes, clinical laboratories, departments of functional diagnostics, rehabilitation centers, secondary schools, among which: City Clinical Diagnostic Center «Headache» (I.Mechnikov Regional Hospital), Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology NAS of Ukraine, public institution «Institute of gastroenterology of the National academy of medical sciences of Ukraine», communal institution «Dnepropetrovsk regional children's clinical hospital», communal institution «Secondary school of general education № 24» where students carry out their course and graduate works.

In May 2016, the Chair of Human and Animal Physiology has been beginning international cooperation with the Ben-Gurion University (Israel). During 2016-2017 PhD, Assoc. of the Department of anesthesiology and critical protection this University Matthew Boyko has been visiting at the chair. He has done cycle of lectures for teachers, graduate students and students.
