The department trains highly qualified specialists in the field of tourism, recreation, hotel and restaurant business and catering, capable of competing in the modern labor market. Students acquire deep theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of tourism and hotel and restaurant services, as well as competencies that are necessary for effective management of economic processes and development of business entities in the tourism and hotel and restaurant industry in the conditions of a globalized economic space and modern challenges.

The educational process is provided by: 1 Doctor of Sciences, 4 Candidates of Sciences, 1 senior lecturer.

Zhylenko Kateryna Mykolayivna – Head of the Department of Tourism Business and Hospitality, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor.

Zhylenko Kateryna Mykolayivna teaches the following subjects: "Conference Service and Coworking", "Organization of Restaurant Business", "MICE-Tourism", "Business Projects in the Hospitality Sector", "Event-Technologies and the MICE Industry", "International Tourism Business".     Research interests: Strategic development of tourism business and hospitality industry; innovative models of management and marketing in the hospitality sector; economics of MICE-tourism; economics in the hospitality sector; business design and rebranding of the hospitality sector and tourist destinations. 
  
Slyvenko Vyacheslav Albertovych - Associate Professor of the Department of Tourism Business and Hospitality, PhD in History, Associate Professor.
Teaches educational disciplines: "History of the Development of International Tourism and Hospitality", "Tourist Regional Studies", "Geography of Tourism", "Culture of Behavior and Professional Ethics in the Hospitality Sector", "Specialized Tourism", "Fundamentals of Hospitality", "Human Resources Policy in Hotels and Restaurants", "Security and Crime Prevention in Hospitality Establishments".    Scientific interests: History of the formation and development of international tourism; cultural and historical aspects of hospitality; tourist regional studies and geography of tourism; security policy in the field of tourism and hospitality; ethics and professional behavior of personnel in hospitality industry. 

Stavitska Alla Vasylivna – Associate Professor of the Department of Tourism Business and Hospitality,  PhD in Economics.  Teaches educational disciplines:"Recreation", "Information and Documentation Support in Hotels and Restaurants", "Information and Documentation Support in Tourism", "Organization of Animation Activities", "Infrastructure of Hotel and Restaurant Business", "Hospitality Technologies. Scientific interests: Recreational economy and sustainable development of tourism; organization of animation and excursion activities: regulatory and legal principles and practical aspects; organization of animation activities in tourism; development of infrastructure of the hotel and restaurant sector.   

Samoilenko Alla Oleksandrivna – Associate Professor of the Department of Tourism Business and Hospitality, PhD in Economics.  Teaches educational disciplines:"Fundamentals of Scientific Research", "Organization of Service in Hospitality Establishments", "Settlement Operations in the Hotel and Restaurant Business", "Sanatorium and Resort Activities". Scientific interests: organizational and economic aspects of the functioning of hospitality establishments; scientific and research approaches to the analysis of tourism activities; efficiency of health resort business; financial transactions and accounting in the hotel and restaurant industry; service quality management. 

Teslenko Tetyana Viktorivna - Associate Professor of the Department of Tourism Business and Hospitality,, PhD in History, Associate Professor.
Teaches educational disciplines: "World  Market  of Hotel Services", "Sanatorium and Resort Activities: Hotel and Restaurant Business", "Event-Technologies and the MICE Industry", "Fundamentals of Tourism Business", "Tour operating",  "Organization of the Hotel Business", "Settlement Operations in the Hotel and Restaurant Business".     Scientific interests: event-technologies and the MICE industry; global trends in the development of the hotel market; development of resort and medical tourism; digitalization of the hotel and restaurant business; marketing strategies in the hospitality sector.
     
Khodak Olga Vitaliivna – Senior Lecturer of the  Department of Tourism Business and Hospitality. Teaches educational disciplines: "Technology of Restaurant Production", "Cultural Heritage of Ukraine", "World Market of Hotel Services", "Service Sector and International Tourism". Research interests: anti-crisis management in the hotel and restaurant business;  global trends in the development in hospitality industry; world market  of hotel services; health resort management; innovative training technologies for personnel training. 

Educational Activities of the Department The Department of Tourism Business and Hospitality is a graduate department at two levels of higher education and provides training for specialists:  

the first (bachelor's) level: on the basis of secondary education and the accelerated training on the basis of a junior specialist: – speciality J2 Hotel and Restaurant Business and Catering (EP (educational program)  "Hotel and Restaurant Business and Catering"); – speciality J3 Tourism and Recreation (EP “International Tourism”);   on the basis of secondary education and the accelerated training on the basis of a junior specialist: – speciality   J2 Hotel and Restaurant Business and Catering (EP "Hotel and Restaurant Business and Catering"); – speciality   J3 Tourism and Recreation (EP "International Tourism");      on the basis of secondary  education and the accelerated training on the basis of a junior specialist: - speciality  241 Hotel and Restaurant Business  (EP “ Hotel and Restaurant Business”); – speciality  242 Tourism and Recreation (EP “International Tourism Business”);   on the basis of secondary  education and the accelerated training on the basis of a junior specialist: - speciality  241 Hotel and Restaurant Business  (EP “ Hotel and Restaurant Business”); – speciality  242 Tourism and Recreation  (EP “International Tourism Business”).

At the current stage, the Department of Tourism Business and Hospitality is the center of scientific and applied innovations in the educational process of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, as it unites the emergent knowledge of experienced assistants and scientists.

Research Activities of the Department  

The Department of Tourism Business and Hospitality of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University carries out systematic research activities aimed at the development of theoretical and applied problems of the tourism and hospitality industry, training of scientific personnel, and implementation of research results into the practice of regional development. The department organizes and participates in the  interdepartmental and university scientific events, conferences and seminars; our lecturers take advanced training courses on the basis of the educational and methodological centers of our university.

The students of the department are regularly involved in scientific conferences; they prepare course and qualification papers on current problems of the hospitality industry, participate in the student competitions of scientific works and interuniversity events.

The key areas of scientific research: - theoretical and methodological foundations of the development of tourism business and hospitality industry; - MICE tourism, event-clusters and management of event economy; - recreational systems, sanatorium and resort economy; - innovative business-models and digitalization of the hotel and restaurant business; - management of service quality, personnel policy and professional ethics in hospitality.   Scientific publications and editions   The department participates in the preparation of scientific collections and monographs; our lecturers  publish the  articles in the Ukrainian as well as international scientific  professional journals, including the scientific  collections of materials from scientific and practical conferences held at DNU. In particular, the research results of the department were published in the materials of the International Scientific and Practical Conference.   Directions of scientific work development  

  1. Formalization of the department's annual research themes with specific expected results (publications, monographs, reference books).
  2. Development of scientific schools and interdisciplinary projects (tourism economics + ecology, creative industries).
  3. Attracting grants (national and international) and participating in research funding programs.
  4. Systematic support of publications in Scopus / Web of Science journals (if possible) and increasing the international citations.

International Activities  

The department implements the international educational and scientific initiatives that promote academic mobility, exchange of experience, and improvement of the quality of training of specialists in tourism industry.    Under the EU Erasmus+ academic exchange projects, the economics students from DNU can study during a semester at the following partner universities:  

  1. Uniwersytet Wrocławski (Poland) – the University of Wroclaw (Poland)
  2. Universidad de Córdoba (Spain) – the University of Cordoba (Spain)
  3. Universidad de Sevilla (Spain) – the University of Seville (Spain)
  4. Sapienza Università di Roma (Italy) – Sapienza University of Rome (Italy)
  5. Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) - Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece)
  6. Sabancı Üniversitesi (Turkey) – the University of Sabanci (Turkey)
 The faculty has also an agreement with Mitteweida University of Applied Sciences (Germany), that provides not only the semester-long learning, but also the two diplomas under the agreed educational programs.  The students of specialties J2 Hotel and Restaurant Management and Catering, J3 Tourism and Recreation can improve their practical skills through internships within the framework of an agreement with the UCM-Italy Association (Italy).
Our lecturers have opportunities for foreign internships under the academic exchange programs. In 2023, Prof. Zhylenko K.M. visited the University of Cordoba (Spain) under the program "Innovative Teaching Methods in Higher Education", as a result, “International Tourism Development Strategy” has been implemented into the educational competencies. In 2024, the students and the faculty members of the department actively participated in the Global Security and Resilience Project of Dr. Mark H. Siegel, a project manager from San Diego State University (USA). In 2024, an Associate Professor Slyvenko V.A.  participated in organizing a series of webinars on the implementation of projects for the EU grant program "Horizon Europe" with Karlov University (Czech Republic) under the European Union Program in the field of Education, Training, Youth and Sport.
