The modern Department of Romano-Germanic Philology has passed a long way of development and reforming during its existence. In 1952, the Department of Foreign Languages was founded at the Faculty of History and Philology of Dnipropetrovsk State University. In 1962, the Romano-Germanic Department was established on the basis of this department and, in particular, the Department of French and Latin (later - the Department of French, which in 1988 was named the Department of Romance Philology). In 1974, during the reform, the Department of Germanic Philology was established. In 2022, within the framework of the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Philology and Study of Arts, the Departments of Romance and Germanic Philology were merged into one.
