American Leadership Experience for DNU
On the 10th of July, the training program The Virtual 2023 Executive Leadership Academy from the University of California, Berkeley started, and the rector of our university Sergiy Okovytyy won a grant for studying there.
In total, five top managers of Ukrainian higher educational establishments were chosen to participate in the training program ELA Fellowships for Ukraine from the University of California based on the results of a competitive choice process. The training course “The Executive Leadership Academy 2023” is implemented by the Goldman School of Public Policy and the Center for Higher Education Research at one of the most prestigious universities in the United States, the University of Berkeley.
The ELA 2023 online sessions for heads of universities started on the 10th of July and lasted until the 18th of July. Participants had a 9-day intensive learning experience under the guidance of a team of 25 American higher education leaders. Together with their colleagues from U.S. universities, Ukrainian higher education leaders learnt to assess the multicultural and global dynamics of higher education and acquired main skills in critical thinking, leadership, and strategic planning for their administrative positions. In total, 26 executive leadership skills were studied. Participants learnt about changes in higher education and higher education leadership, as well as changing funding sources and expectations, new multicultural competencies, risk management, fundraising, and more.
On the 19th of July, after the end of the general ELA 2023 program, a one-day professional development seminar “Digital Resilience: Using Technology for Overcoming Disruptions” is planned. It is dedicated to the specifics of Ukrainian universities. The rector of our university, Sergiy Okovytyy, was invited to moderate this special event.
The agenda of The Virtual 2023 Executive Leadership Academy Program included classes on peacemaking, strategic planning in a disruptive environment, transition and adaptation, investing in diversity, leadership traits and skills in higher education, institutional participation in advisory boards, university rankings, ensuring academic integrity and crisis prevention in higher education, university business (services and finance), work-life balance from a leadership perspective.
