DNU and Charles University: Friends Forever

From November 6 to 12, a delegation from Oles Honchar Dnipro National University paid a working visit to Charles University (Prague, the Czech Republic). Together with our Czech colleagues, our scientists summarized the results of the grant program “Strengthening the capacities of public higher education institutions in Ukraine and Moldova in 2023” and worked out promising areas for future grant projects.

Throughout the week, representatives of Dnipro National University held consultations with Czech colleagues on the implementation of the results of a large grant program funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. Under this program, DNU is working to improve educational technologies and implementing research projects on mini-grants.

In particular, a series of talks were held with vice-rectors and heads of institutes and faculties of Charles University, with whom plans for further cooperation in education and research have already been outlined. These were personal meetings with the heads of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, the Biology and Chemistry Departments of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, the First Medical Faculty (Institute of Medical Biochemistry and Laboratory Diagnostics, Rehabilitation Clinic); the Institute of East European Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Arts, and the Clementinum Central Library.

It should be noted that from the first months of the war, representatives of DNU felt the effective support of their Czech colleagues from these very structural units of the partner university.

In the realities of a full-scale invasion, rocket attacks, and blackouts, Dnipro National University prioritized the stability of all services, the sustainability and quality of the educational process, and the possibility of continuous communication with partners for research teams. The implementation of a joint project with Charles University provides us with such opportunities. For example, with the organizational support of coordinator Oleksandr Kandakov, more than 20 joint seminars were held to discuss challenges for Ukrainian universities and ways to overcome them, – Rector of DNU Sergiy Okovytyy told the Czech partners.

It may seem that the attention of Czech society is waning, but certainly not on the part of Charles University. Charles University is proud to be a partner of Ukrainian universities. We still want to support Ukrainian students and researchers. We have many mutual friends among scientists, and we will look for new ways and new forms of cooperation. My thoughts are with you, and we will do everything to ensure that you do well with international projects. Glory to Ukraine! – said Professor Milena Kralíčková, MD, PhD, Rector of Charles University, in her speech.

Soon, as a result of the cooperation between Ukrainian and Czech colleagues, modern multimedia equipment for online webinars will be purchased, which will significantly expand the communication capabilities of DNU scientists and educators. It is also planned to jointly use modern expensive equipment of Charles University in scientific research.

Additionally, during the final conference “Supporting the improvement of the quality of education, research and international activities at Oles Honchar Dnipro National University”, the directions of cooperation between specific structural units of DNU and Charles University for participation in the EU grant programs were also proposed.
