Extension of the DAAD Program for 2024 for Ukrainian Biology Students
For the third time, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has awarded a grant to the team of the Faculty of Biology and Ecology of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University to participate in online courses for biology students.
The DAAD educational project “Blended Course “Integrative Life Sciences” for Ukrainian Biology Students” aims to support biology students who continue their studies in Ukraine despite the war. In particular, students of the Department of Biochemistry and Physiology, whose head, Doctor of Biological Sciences Professor Halyna Ushakova, is supervising the project from DNU, will have this opportunity to expand their professional knowledge. There is even a scholarship for our most active students - from 100 to 400 euros.
The free interactive online courses in biology and related fields in Ukrainian are funded by the DAAD, which, among other things, will also provide about 100 scholarships in 2024 for students from families severely affected by the war.
The project was developed at the initiative of Professor Olha Garaschuk, Director of the Institute of Physiology at the University of Tübingen (Germany). It brings together 20 professors from 10 Ukrainian, three German and two other European universities. The 10 Ukrainian partner universities have agreed to count these online courses as part of their curricula. The overall coordination of all course curricula will be provided by the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University.
A total of six free interactive online courses are being organized in 2024: “Bioinformatics” (March-April), integrative course “Life Sciences” (March-May), “Molecular and Cellular Neurophysiology” (March-April), “Microscopy and Instrumental Methods in Biology” (July-August), “Medical Genetics” (September-October), integrative course “Microbes, Viruses and Infections” (September-November). This set of courses is a continuation of the programs taught in 2022-2023, which were attended by about 450 students from 40 Ukrainian universities.
