Scientists of Stanford Support Colleagues in Ukraine
Scientists from Oles Honchar Dnipro National University and Stanford University discussed opportunities for cooperation in international research groups in the fields of developmental biology, systems biology, and chemistry.
The meeting, which was held remotely, was attended by the rector of DNU, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Sergiy Okovytyy, acting vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work in the field of international cooperation, Candidate of Biological Sciences Viktor Gasso, and the dean of the Faculty of Biology and Ecology, Doctor of Biological Sciences Olena Severinovska. From Stanford University, scientific cooperation was discussed by Professor Joanna Wysocka, who works in the Laboratory of Developmental Biology and Chemical and Systems Biology, and Kateryna Kraft, who holds the position of a research associate in the Department of Pathology in the Laboratory of Paul Michel.

The rector thanked his colleagues and all the people of the United States for supporting Ukraine throughout the war:
It should be noted that the meeting was initiated by Olena Severinovska, who worked at Stanford on a grant from Professor Vysotska's lab, for which our scientist is sincerely grateful to her American colleagues:
She is especially grateful for the opportunity to deepen her knowledge of pluripotent stem cell biology and differentiation protocols, as well as to start her own research on the creation of brain pericyte-like cells, brain microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs) and cortical neurons.

Professor Joanna Wysocka of Stanford University is known for her research in epigenetics and chromatin biology. Her work focuses on studying the mechanisms that regulate chromatin structure and its impact on gene expression. In particular, she investigates how chromatin modifications affect the activity of enhancers, DNA regulatory elements that enhance gene expression.

The colleagues also discussed the reduction of international scientific and academic exchange programs, as this has affected not only the opportunities for Ukrainian scientists and students, but also the scientific community of the United States. In many American universities, the reduction of international programs will lead to job cuts and cancellation of contracts.
Stanford University scientists will initiate a joint document from the US National Academy of Sciences to restore these programs.

Today, DNU implements 4 bilateral partnership agreements with the following US universities: Jackson State University, Sam Houston State University, Colorado State University, Ukrainian Historical and Educational Center (Somerset, New Jersey).
During the war years, Ukrainian scientists made 5 visits to the United States of America. Also during this period, 2 students of DNU studied at US universities under the Global Undergraduate Exchange Programme (Global UGRAD) (one of them twice in a row).
