PhD student of DNU is a winner of prestigious award from Google

PhD student of Dnipropetrovsk National University Ksenia Shumelchyk won an annual "Anita Borg scholarship" by Google in computer science. Such prize in Ukraine was awarded for only two women.

The Ukrainian representative was one of 40 winners of this year's Google program for students and faculty of informatics, systems engineering, programming and related industries with technical universities in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Scholarships in the amount of EUR 7,000 were exclusively awarded for women with high achievements in the computer industry. It was established by Google in 2004 in honor of Dr. Anita Borg - American academic (inventor of the patented method of analysis and design of high-speed memory), which has devoted all his life breaking of stereotypes that hinder the professional development of women in the information technology industry.

24-year-old winner of the award Ksenia Shumelchyk is postgraduate student of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics of Dnipropetrovsk National University already has considerable professional experience. For the third year in a row she heads projects of Women Techmakers Ukraine and Google Developers Group Dnipropetrovsk.

Laureates of scholarships from Ukraine received Organizers' offer to join the annual meeting Google EMEA Scholars' Retreat in London, where the girls were able to meet each other, to meet women leading in IT industry and representatives of Google, and learn new technology products of this company.

Winner of prestigious award by Google wants to become a doctor of Sciences is not going to move from Ukraine. "I want to implement my future projects in Ukraine. That's why I reject offers to study abroad and work for the corporation Google. I think that our country has more prospects for the development of new software, "- said Ksenia Shumelchyk.
