45 students of the Faculty of Biology and Ecology of DNU took international online courses in 2023 with the financial support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Almost half of the students received scholarships in the amount of 200 to 600 euros depending on the number of credits for their activity and academic performance.
As part of the project, a team of teachers from Ukraine and Germany offered biology students 8 online courses for free: “Bioinformatics”, “Molecular and Cellular Neurophysiology”, “Life Cycle of a Research Project”, “Microscopy and Instrumental Methods in Biology”, “Pedagogical Excellence in Teaching and Popularizing the Biological Sciences”, “Mathematical Statistics for Biologists”, and integrated courses “Life Sciences” and “Microbes, Viruses and Infections”.
The project for supporting Ukrainian biology students during the war was developed at the initiative of Professor Olga Garaschuk, Director of the Institute of Physiology at the University of Tübingen (Germany), in cooperation with her colleagues from the Stefanyk Precarpathian National University. Galyna Ushakova, Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Physiology at DNU, together with colleagues from the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the Precarpathian National University, prepared and taught the course in biochemistry.
The main goal of the courses was to improve the education of students of those universities affected by the war.
