Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr. Detlef Wolter visited Dnipropetrovsk National University. During the visit he had a meeting with the leaders and students of the university.
During the meeting of Mr. Detlef Wolter with rector of Dnipropetrovsk National University there was discussed the circle of issues on cooperation between our countries in the educational and scientific spheres. In particular,Mykola Polyakov said that the DNU cooperation with German partners is productive: "Today DNU is an undoubted leader in Germanic philology and German language. For example, on the basis of historical faculty of DNU we have successfully operating German Center "Germans in Ukraine", which has been researching the history of ethnic Germans-Mennonites living in Ukraine. Also Dnipropetrovsk National University in several directions cooperates with German institutions of higher education and research institutions.
Welcoming the strong scientific links of Dnipropetrovsk University established with German colleagues, Mr D.Wolter said that the Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany, in turn, is ready to help support this partnership and cooperation. "We know that Eastern Ukraine is a first-class center of education and science, and therefore strives to maintain this high standard set of quality education. The staff of our consulates can assist in establishing relationships with new German and European universities, in search of concrete proposals for cooperation for students and scholars from Ukraine, the possibilities of studying and improving German language skills, etc. ", - said Mr. D.Wolter.
Detlef Wolter spoke about the activity of the Consulate General of Germany in Dnipropetrovsk with students of economics faculty, faculties of social sciences and international relations and international economics. In particular, he emphasized that in Dnipropetrovsk Consulate General of Germany started its activities in January 2015 (after the close of Donetsk because of conflicts in some parts of Donetsk and Lugansk regions). And even though it's temporary office, all consular and legal affairs from around the consular district of the five areas of representation takes fully, actively cooperatinh with German Embassy in Kyiv.
In addition, Dr. D.Wolter presented the audience of DNU the main focus of general Consulate General of Germany in the current socio-political situation in Ukraine. In particular, among the priorities there are: increasing humanitarian aid from the German government for the internally displaced persons of Donbass and needy people in the occupied territories, exchange of experience in the decentralization, support for anti-corruption reforms, modernization of the energy industry, small and medium business in Ukraine and development of civil society.
