On the 15th of June, in Kyiv and Dnipro a Forum “the Women's Leadership for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development” took place. It brought together 100 leaders of the green movement, women with green hearts, who have not left Ukraine and are defending “the environmental front”.
The Award “Green Heart Leader” was given to 100 Ukrainian women, 30 of whom are scientists, educators, business and government representatives, and civic activists from the Dnipro region and Dnipro city.
At the forum Oles Honchar Dnipro National University was represented by Iryna Ivanko, Director of the Research Institute of Biology. The achievements of the entire indomitable team of the Research Institute of Biology of DNU were solemnly noted, which in difficult times of war continues actively its scientific activities on the conservation and restoration of biodiversity, directing it, of course, to the problems of overcoming the consequences of war for the ecosystems of Ukraine.
The forum featured inspiring eco-manageress-leaders’ stories about women’s leadership and their contribution to Ukraine's victory, women's participation in environmental restoration, economic and social processes during the war, and the experience of the women's movement in Ukraine. They also discussed joint initiatives and the exchange of professional experience to rebuild our country to the highest environmental standards.
The event was implemented by the Office of Sustainable Solutions and the Professional Association of Environmentalists of the World (PAEW) with the assistance of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine under the UN Recovery and Peace-building Program, with financial support from the European Union, and in cooperation with the team of the Department of Environmental Policy of the Dnipro City Council.
